Tuesday, 21st May

It is Tuesday, my world has moved too quickly.  Paul is in hospital undergoing tests.  Hopefully he should be back today.
He had been ill for sometime, refusing to go to the doctors, think the last time was in 1986.  So yesterday morning, I phoned the doctor's surgery with a lot of grumbling from him.  They fitted him in and the doctor arranged for tests at York hospital same day.  Whenever you think about the NHS remember it is one of the finest things about this country, and don't let it go under the auspicious of that foolish man Farage, who would sell our services to American firms.
Coming home we packed a bag, and dear Christina, agreed to come to show us the back road through the villages to the busy metropolis of York city.  I am not a confident driver, country lanes are fine, ring roads round York are absolutely full of traffic.  We managed fine.  Settled Paul in a small ward, he had a window overlooking trees, and by yesterday evening he had had some tests.  I had joked that the surprise element is going into a ward of 'older' people, you suddenly realise you are elderly to ;)
I had asked Irene to pop in on Lucy, Lucy, loves both these friends, though Irene is deaf (just like Lucy), I wasn't sure how they would communicate together.
Irene came round and offered to accompany me today, though she and her husband had been planning to go to Whitby for a couple of days, what would we do without friends? So at some stage I shall know how my day will unfold.

Thanks Pat. It seems that the scans this morning are coming out clear but he still needs the doctors's analsyis. Just told me not to come this afternoon, as he doesn't know what time everything is happening, like draining the fluid that has built up in his body. Sorry, gory details I know;). He is obviously in the best hospital in the district though.

Hope all turns out well with the tests. If they find nothing, consider his diet. I learned this year that my body cannot tolerate nightshades, especially potatoes and tomatoes but maybe the rest too. I don't miss the potatoes but definitely am not happy about the tomatoes. But feeling bad is not good. Some people go on diets that eliminate everything but one and then slowly add back to see what it might be. The big thing is he has gone to the doctor to make sure it's not something they can treat. When it's diet, medical science really can't do much. It's process of trying and eliminating to come up with what's going on, and our bodies are always changing what works or does not for us.

Well initially the tests don't seem bad but the underlying cause has to be diagnosed Rain. Paul's diet is very Japanese, noodles, rice, tofu, some meat, not very good on vegetables, and no great potato fan as well.
I never equated nightshade with potatoes and tomatoes, though of course you don't eat a potato that has turned green. But I think the root cause of allergies is what we spray vegetables with now.

Hi Aril, his tests are fairly clear, but he is weak, hopefully he should come home today so I am going to keep my fingers crossed. The whole point of getting him to the doctors, and then being sent to the hospital has at least cleared the air. He hadn't been to the doctors since 1986 and he was scared I think. Thank goodness for the NHS, not so some of the patients, he says there were two nasty men yelling and shouting at the nurses - both got removed. Wonder whether they have a 'naughty step' in hospital?

Please do update us on Paul's health - I feel I know him quite well. Men are funny about doctors aren't they - then they have to go and it is all scary. Do hope the news was good.

Paul says thank you for asking. Went and picked him up this afternoon Pat, he is very weak, and has plenty of pills and protein drinks but is cheerful in himself. Now he must eat properly to gain weight; the illness is to do with his liver but is hopefully only at a mild stage.

It is hard when our loved ones ignore health signs. We should always listen to our body no matter what we fear By now you will have a better idea of what needs tobe done.
